We are used to eating food in combinations- cheese with meat, fruits in salads, milk with fruit. But did you know modern hygienists, physiologists, and Ayurveda slams these combinations as harmful? These food combinations often make you feel bloated and heavy and lethargic.

They inhibit digestive processes and lead to stomach ache, nausea, fatigue and difficulty to eliminate waste.

We are all guilty of eating the wrong kind of food because we are too lazy to eat the right stuff. Either a busy day at the office or we are just feeling down and find a reason, an excuse rather to get our hands on that burger we had been craving all week.

Whilst we all try and eat healthy and say “no” to order dessert at dinner, it may not be enough.

1. Bananas and Milk

This combination is a very heavy one and is very toxin forming. It is said to create heaviness in the body and slow down the mind.

Banana Milk shake is a great savory for the summer, but the combination is a sin when it comes to digestion. The combination is one of the heaviest and toxin forming for a human body. Although both the foods have a sweet taste and cooling energy, the post-digestion effect of both are different. The combinations create mucus and allergies for people suffering from asthma.

There are very few people on earth who don’t like banana milkshake. But this also makes for a dangerous food combination, as it sits heavy in your stomach. Try to avoid this combination; if you cannot resist a milkshake, add a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon to stimulate your digestive system.

2. Burger and Fries

Yes, those fries we order to go with our burger without even thinking. The Trans fats in both these food items (since the burger patty and chips are both deep fried) will lower your blood sugar levels and more often than not, cause you to feel tired and sleepy.

3. Cereal and Juice

We all like to start our mornings with something that gives us energy. 6. Muffins and Juice

This is another common breakfast combination that will leave you feeling tired soon after. This meal trades the protein and fiber you need to start your day for excess carbohydrates, which will kick your blood sugar but it will crash soon after.

7. Tomatoes in Pasta

Hell yes! Who knew this staple meal for a lot of people was not good for the body. Pasta is rich in starchy Carbs and difficult to digest. The tomatoes which are highly acidic cause hindrance in the digestion of starch and cause bloating.

No pasta is complete without tomatoes, cheese sauce or meat. However, all of these wreak havoc on your digestive system. Tomato has acids which weaken the enzyme in starchy pasta, curdles the dairy in cheese. Meat and Carbs are also another bad combination that makes this fare very difficult to digest. 8. Yogurt with Fruit

We have all, at some point had a fruit instead of that heavy chocolate cake, in our attempt to be healthy. This is a bad idea when you’re on a full stomach. 15. Carbs and Animal Protein

When you eat a carbohydrate with protein (such as meat with potatoes or bread) they counteract- protein putrefies and carbohydrate ferments. This leads to gas, bloating and flatulence. Those who have eaten this combination for years may have developed immunity, but it is better to eat complementary combinations like beans and rice which is a good combination.

16. Two High Proteins

Surf and turf, bacon and eggs- these are all popular combinations containing two high protein sources. This taxes the digestive system and takes a long time to digest. To avoid this, eat your meals in courses- keeping light proteins first and meat later and never wait more than 10 minutes between each course.

17. Food and Water/Juice

Drinking water or juice with your meal is one of the most toxic food combinations. Water dilutes your stomach acids and reduces their effectiveness in breaking down proteins, carbohydrates and fats. So drink water 10 minutes before the meal. This’ll keep you from overeating or diluting stomach enzymes.

 

18. Cereal with Milk and Orange Juice

20. Beans and Cheese

This is a very common combination in Mexican cuisine. Cheese, beans, hot sauce and guacamole- this is a surefire recipe of bloating, gas and other digestion related problems. However, unlike the common notion, beans by themselves do not give you gas. So try to separate the cheese from beans if you have a weak digestive system.
